Yandangshan UNESCO Global Geopark is located at the south of the Asian continent margin, -- the marginal-pacific tectonic domain of China. In the Mesozoic Era, a low angle, oblique subduction occurred by the Kula plate (a part of the paleo-pacific plate) to the Asian plate, which caused a transformation of the EW tectonic system of east China to the NE, NEE tectonic system. This tectonic movement was similar to the Yanshan movement of China. Yandangshan Cretaceous caldera is located in the China's southeast coastal areas. The tectonic characteristics had important global significance and scientific values in paleo-volcanology, volcanic petrography, regional geo-tectonics and geomorphology.
